Loocha and Old Mutual present Financial Wellbeing Networking Sessions to the Youth

22 November 2011 | | Loocha
Inspired to “do great things,” Old Mutual has teamed up with Loocha, South Africa’s hottest Youth Empowerment Magazine, to bring Financial Wellbeing Networking Sessions to the Youth of South Africa. Loocha and Old Mutual present the Youth with a priceless Pass to becoming Shareholders in their Success and making their Money work for them.

Statistics show that over 7 million South Africans are over indebted and more importantly, consumer debt is growing at an alarming rate. A spokesperson for Old Mutual says South Africans have to make choices as a nation because they cannot live in debt and not save for tomorrow. Old Mutual and Loocha have subsequently identified a gap in the market to educate the youth and have launched this nationwide initiative.

Deputy Finance Minister, Nhlanhla Nene, says South Africans need to save more to ensure sustainable economic growth and reduce dependence on foreign capital.

The problem is, however, the youth do not have money savvy, nor do they have the tools to manage their money. Both stakeholders have identified the need for these seminars, especially considering that the youth need financial advice and guidance in being skilled for their choice of career.

These seminars will be hosted every three months, on a national basis, and aim to inform, educate, motivate and empower the youth on financial freedom and career opportunities. Loocha Magazine’s business relations manager, Shalate Teffo, says the seminars’ attendees will comprise students from multifarious educational institutions including persons with disabilities, young professionals that have recently joined corporates, as well as young entrepreneurs.

Youths will be able to cash in on the fruits of financial leverage and deposit their dreams into the capable hands of Old Mutual’s financial experts. Old Mutual will provide financial advice, giving the youth a kick-start to a financially manageable and sustainable future. Old Mutual’s financial advisors will also discuss the products and services that they offer, which will ultimately benefit the youth. They will take the guesswork out of financial planning.

With sessions promoting the ’Big 5 Secrets of Money Management’, the youth will be able to withdraw the wonderful opportunities offered, and unlock the key to funding their future.

These Seminars aim to be both aspirational and inspirational, and Loocha has sourced and secured young professionals and entrepreneurs, who have ‘Invested in their Success’ and who are ‘Doing Great Things’, to address the attendees and share their journeys.

“We have invited representatives from established companies to participate as panel speakers for the seminars, to address the youth on how to excel in their sphere of career. According to lawyer and author John Christian Bovee, example has more followers than reason,” says Teffo.

Furthermore, entrepreneurs will provide invaluable advice on how to overcome challenges that they were faced with when venturing out on their own. Motivational speakers will comprise a crucial element of the seminars, providing a tangible platform for youth empowerment.

Loocha would like to inspire the youth to go out and embark on journeys of their own, equipped with the tools to invest in their success. As Spanish philosopher, Baltasar Gracian once said, “Nothing arouses ambition so much as the trumpet clang of another’s fame.”

Loocha has employed the partnership of the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) to address the youth, regarding employment opportunities, internships, applications for bursaries and the like. In the past, youths have been motivated to embark upon their careers, but have experienced difficulty with regards to who to approach and how to go about the process.

One of Loocha’s most crucial objectives is to bridge the information gap between the youth, Government and industry. Loocha will act as a platform where Government and industry can communicate directly with the youth, regarding programmes and opportunities available to the South African Youth, and in exchange the youth can use Loocha as their trusted tool, to access Information on youth programmes and opportunities available at different youth institutions, be it in the public or private sector.

The NYDA and Loocha have put an end to this issue, and will furnish the youth with all the necessary information, contacts and contact details to equip themselves with the tools for a successful start. Loocha provides the platform to catapult the youth to soaring success.

“We aim to reach disadvantaged Youths by also conducting the seminars in areas where the youth would not have immediate access to this kind of information,” says Teffo.

“We would like to thank Old Mutual for this partnership, and we are excited to work in close cooperation with them and other organisations in this and similar initiatives that will have a direct positive impact to the youth,” she concludes.

Loocha looks forward to hosting the youth and sharing with them a wealth of wisdom, courtesy of Old Mutual, the NYDA and the esteemed speakers.
