What will you do here?
You will contribute to the success of the company through high quality and rigorous financial analysis and real-time reporting to enable data-driven business decision-making. Key responsibilities will include ensuring the accuracy, validity and completeness of management and financial accounting, analysis, budgeting, reporting and ensuring that all corporate, accounting, fiscal and regulatory requirements and deadlines are met.

Key responsibilities of the role:

Financial Reporting
•Responsible for the full accounting function including month-end journals relating to insurance which will include premiums, claims, reinsurance premiums and claims, administration income and commission.
•Ensure that preparation of monthly management accounts with detailed analysis is completed and submitted within the required deadlines.
•Critically analyse Management Accounts for variances and action plans.
•Analyse the income statement cash flow variances and supply commentary.
•Analyse and report on balance sheet recons and costs.
•Cost management and reporting which include monthly variance analysis and cost investigations.
•Provide commercial and financial oversight in supporting the operational heads, while monitoring performance to approved budgets.
•Maintain appropriate communication channels between Finance and the business.
•Evaluate and review the outcomes of the accounting process at all stages.
•Compile AFS by complying with IFRS and relevant regulatory frameworks.
•Oversee debtors, creditors and cashbook management.
•Statutory Regulatory Reporting: Reserve Bank, FSCA and Prudential Authority.
•Review the performance of the business using financial metrics.
•Monitoring and forecasting of capital adequacy requirements.
•Provide actionable, relevant and time sensitive insight and information to the business to enable key business and strategic decisions.
•Income tax and VAT compliance and submissions.

Treasury
•Ensure that cash budgets and forecast cash flow positions are prepared on time.
•Conduct a variance analysis on a weekly basis and provide management with a detailed analysis of changes and the reasons, therefore.
•Maintain banking relationships and negotiate terms with banks.
•Ensure that sufficient reserves are maintained for short- and long-term liabilities including reserves for capital adequacy purposes.
•Prepare analysis of short- and long-term liquidity requirements and ensure future cash flow requirements are based on accurate projections.
•Ensure that sufficient funds are available to meet ongoing operational and capital investment requirements.

General
•Assist with automating accounting processes and where any development is required coordinate with the relevant departments to achieve that objective.
•Create, implement and monitor processes and procedures around the creation of monthly forecasts.
•Develop and implement finance and accounting procedures.
•Establish and maintain appropriate internal controls.
•Interact with other managers to provide support through financial and management information analysis, reports, and recommendations.
•Continuous improvement of accounting and reporting processes in line with overall business objectives.
•Increase productivity by developing automated reporting/forecasting/budgeting tools.
•Co-ordinate annual audits.
•Assets, procurement, commercial contracts and insurance management.
•Adhoc finance projects.

Qualification and experience required
•CA(SA) is essential.
•More than 2 years post article experience in a commercial environment.
•Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles.
•Working knowledge of short and long-term budgeting and profitability analysis.
•Experience with accounting software (both input and output).
•Very advanced computer skills especially in Excel.
•Knowledge of the insurance industry and applicable regulatory requirements and legislation would be an advantage.

Organisational alignment
•The role reports to the CEO.
•The position is based at our head office in Stellenbosch.
