A public relations nightmare…

Now that we have our top 10… we’re back in full swing with our in-person format, with a season that’s going to be like none other – from clashing characters to challenging curveballs and ruthless judges, the contestants will be tried and tested to their limits.

This is… The Insurance Apprentice season nine.

For the next six weeks, the contestants will not only face gruelling challenges and critical time pressure; but they will also have to face the judges.

But first…
Before we get onto episode two, on 23 January, Bryte Insurance hosted and sponsored a welcome dinner for the apprentices to officially celebrate the start of series nine. Thank you, Bryte Insurance.

A very special thank you also goes out to Old Mutual Insure for being our hosts for the week of filming for The Insurance Apprentice 2023! TIA would not be what it is without a venue to film, thank you. You were fantastic hosts!

Now onto episode two…

The role of risk advisers
Pharmabites Limited is a recently listed pharmaceutical manufacturing company. The company only listed in November 2022. Various disclosures were made in the pre-listing statement around the current and future financial performance, information on the launch of a vaccine, including timelines and an overview of the operations of the company, including risk management frameworks and IT security controls. The internal risk advisers (the apprentices) of Pharmabites have recently gone through a renewal of all its insurance covers.

Pharmabites is due to release a novel vaccine for malaria. The company is ramping production following health funding to roll the vaccine out across the African continent. It has recently suffered a denial of services cyber-attack where it has been locked out of its business.

Episode two, brought to you by SHA Risk Specialists, sees the apprentices take on the role of risk advisers when they are tasked to report back to the board (the judges - head judge, Simon Colman, resident judge Nox Dlamini, Managing Director at XonRisk and sponsor judge Alicia Narainsamy, Digital Distribution Business Head at SHA Risk Specialists) of Pharmabites on whether they have an insurance policy to cover this loss and what financial impact this is going to have on their balance sheet.

Did they meet the mandate and provide valuable solutions to the board? Could the nightmare have been avoided?
