South African drivers and fleet managers have been waiting with baited breath for the commencement of AARTO (Administration Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Act)

MiX Telematics, a leader in fleet technology and innovation, has obtained the rights as an approved reseller of the market leading R2MS AARTO Software Management System, as well as exclusivity with regards to offering the R2MS Software as an integrated web-based management tool that will assist fleet managers with AARTO management.

Gert Pretorius, MD of MiX Telematics Enterprise, says R2MS offers fleet managers an effective and accurate approach to AARTO management ensuring compliance with legislation. “Fleet managers face the possibility of fleets coming to a stand still or even impounded if the legislation is not upheld and this could be a crushing blow for any company, especially those relying on distribution as a revenue generator,” he says. “The point demerit system means that drivers could have their license suspended for three months or more once they have exceeded their maximum 12-point allowance. If the traffic offences are ignored, there is a chance they could permanently lose their license, professional driving permits or operator cards. Being aware of all infringements and being able to manage them timeously will be key to operational success under this new system.”

R2MS manages the lifecycle of an AARTO infringement from the first notification through to finally resolving the issue in a user-friendly way. The process is transparent, simple and, best of all, doesn’t require additional resources. “R2MS provides managers with reports, scorecards and a risk management dashboard so they can make informed decisions, manage risk and reduce costs,” he says.

A risk-based view of all regions, depots and divisions in which organisations operate is generated on R2MS as well as a configurable AARTO workflow. It also includes an automated AARTO form generation and AARTO forms upload tool. Managers receive automated email and SMS notifications and access through smartphones to the system allowing them 24/7 access and mobility.

“R2MS is going to eliminate the stress of AARTO for fleet managers and the risk of non-compliance for organisations. This state-of-the-art yet easy-to-use system is a must-have for any fleet operators going forward. We believe that, coupled with sound driver training, it will be the deciding factor determining whether operators can maximize efficiencies or be forced to down tools and incur major costs,” he concludes.
