Discovery Insure statement on Licensing backlog

30 August 2021 Discovery Insure

In a briefing held by Minister of Transport, the Honourable Fikile Mbalula, this morning, in which he provided an update on the licensing backlogs, the Minister stated that the license deadline and grace period afforded to motorists will be extended to March 2022.

Following this statement by Minister Mbalula, Anton Ossip, Chief Executive Officer at Discovery Insure says: “Given the backlog in drivers’ license renewals, motor insurance cover for Discovery Insure personal and business clients will not be compromised if a claim is submitted during this grace period. Drivers and vehicle owners will be recognised as legally licenced should they need to claim against a Discovery Insure insurance plan provided they are in possession of a valid licence, albeit expired. We encourage our clients to plan around the anticipated delays and to renew their licenses are early as possible before expiry. Vehicle licenses should also be renewed as there is no backlog in this respect.”
