King Price launches app-based emergency response service

15 February 2021 King Price

If you feel threatened, or have an emergency, press the panic button, and the nearest armed response or emergency service vehicle will get to you ASAP. That’s the promise of code red, an app-based emergency response service launched by insurer King Price in response to South Africa’s spiraling crime rates.

SA Police Service crime statistics for 2019/20 show a sharp rise in crimes including carjacking, with more than 18,162 cases reported in this period – an average of 50 per day. There were also 21,130 robberies at residential premises, and 21,325 reported murders.

Code red taps into a network of more than 280 armed response companies, which connects to thousands of responders across all 9 provinces.

Other services available to respond to a code red activation include the SA Police Service, metro, municipal and traffic law enforcement, ambulances, and fire and rescue services.

King Price client experience partner Wynand van Vuuren said code red aims to provide clients with peace of mind whenever they feel threatened or unsafe. “If you feel threatened, or if there’s a medical emergency, you open our app and tap on code red. The code red control room will dispatch the closest linked armed response car to your GPS location, and will then call you to confirm the activation and request additional emergency services, like the police or an ambulance, if necessary.”

Code red is a King Price partnership with Secura, a representative of a network of hundreds of armed response companies who are all registered with PSIRA (Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority). This armed response enterprise is on a mission to deliver more reliable, accessible and affordable security solutions to clients, and currently has tens of thousands of consumers on their platform.

“The reason we chose Secura as our partner for code red is their ability to respond to an emergency, whether you’re at home, at work, or fetching your kids from school, at any time of day or night. By utilising smart technology, Secura ensures a speedy response to your emergency,” said Van Vuuren

King Price clients can register for code red on the King Price app at a nominal monthly cost. The service can then be accessed via the app.

The King Price app is available on major app stores and at kingprice.co.za/app/
