Sasfin Wealth is pleased to announce the appointment of Johan Gouws as Head of its Asset Consulting division. Gouws has accumulated more than 25 years’ experience in financial services, and joins from Absa where he held the position of Head of Asset Consultants.

According to Michael Sassoon, Head of Sasfin Wealth, the appointment is aligned to Sasfin Wealth’s strategy of strengthening its wealth management offering in the retail and institutional markets.

“Johan is a vastly experienced, award-winning investment manager with a proven track record. He has consulted to some of the largest pension funds in the country and we are confident will add value to our investment capabilities. He is a strong addition to the team,” Sassoon added.

Speaking on his appointment, Gouws said he was excited to grow Sasfin Asset Consulting’s (SAC) existing niche franchise, and build the necessary scale for SAC to become a more meaningful player in the broader consulting space:

“I am excited about joining the Sasfin team as the next phase of my career and I am looking forward to the opportunity to assist Sasfin in achieving its strategic goal of growing its presence in the institutional investment advisory market,” Gouws said.

Gouws was part of the founding team of Absa Investment Management Services (AIMS) in 1998, and after being appointed an Executive Director at AIMS in 2001, Gouws started up Absa’s multi management investment capability and held the position of Head of Absa Multi Management before taking the helm at Absa Asset Consultants. The Multi Management team won two Raging Bull awards during his tenure at Absa; in 2006 for the management of the Absa International Fund of Funds, and in 2012 for the Absa Multi-Managed Bond Fund.

Gouws holds a B.Com (Hons) in Investment Management and a Diploma in Financial Markets and Instruments from the University of Johannesburg, together with an MBA from Wits Business School. He also attended Harvard Business School, Duke University and Insead as part of his MBA studies and career development. In addition, he is currently studying towards a Post-Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning.

Gouws also regularly features in the media where he comments on topics such as investment markets, the economy and industry developments.
