In 2003 the Department of Energy (DoE) in South Africa released a white paper on Renewable Energy and the future for the South African energy mix. The vision for the DoE was to make adequate and affordable energy available to developing communities through a mix of alternative energy resources at a reasonable cost. The aim is to satisfy the basic needs of the developing sector and to promote effective utilisation of alternative resources in South Africa.
The growth of Renewable Energy continues to gather pace globally, specially in South Africa, through the Government’s and Department of Energy’s (DoE), Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP).
With the first round of awarding contracts for Renewable Energy projects in South Africa back in 2012, Natsure, through its Underwriting Agency the C & G group, underwriting on behalf of Guardrisk Insurance Company was able to write a “cradle to grave” insurance solution for the Renewable Energy sector. C & G Renew Risk established themselveselves as the only niche Underwriting Manager and market leader in specialist short term “cradle to grave” Renewable Energy Insurance.
Recently Natsure sold part of the C & G group of companies (Engineering & Guarantees), however retaining C & G Renew Risk.
It is with great excitement that we announce that C & G Renew Risk will now officially trade as Renew Risk Africa (Pty) Ltd a specialist Underwriting Manager in South Africa, writing on behalf of local AA+ rated Guardrisk Insurance Company together with GCube Underwriting of London.
For the last 20 years GCube has been trading as one of the largest leading providers of Renewable Energy Insurance services offering comprehensive property and liability coverage for large scale projects around the globe.
Renew Risk Africa (Pty) Ltd, the only niche renewable energy Underwriting Manager on the African continent, will continue to be one of the market leaders with a bespoke ‘cradel to grave’ tailor made product offering, to enable the South African Insurance community to write these projects locally, with great capacity support and a phenomenal claims reputation and payment ability. “We are very proud to be associated with Renew Risk Africa and the fact that they are in the forefront in being part of the creation of history in these South African energy projects and to have the ability to write large scale projects”, Tersia Davey, Director Natsure.
The business will continue without any interruption and will continue to be led by Mike Robson, Managing Director of Renew Risk Africa and ably supported by Jared Nivison who has recently joined from Willis Towers Watson. “We are excited about the future of the business, the growth potential and the increase in our footprint into Africa, as well as the renewed approach by government to put their support behind the Department of Energy and to make sure that we continue to bring these solutions to Africa”, Mike Robson, Managing Director, Renew Risk Africa.
